Peer To Patent, a project of New York Law School (“we”, or the “Website”), believes in the importance of openly sharing ideas to improve decision-making in government. We want to build a community that will improve the quality of patents. At the same time, we believe in mutual respect for the use of each other’s private information.

We gather/publish information from you on this Website in three primary ways:

    1) Information entered by you on your Personal Profile, some of which is published and some of which is private;

    2) Information we gather indirectly and publish about your activity on the Website; and

    3) Information you publish on the discussion pages or when submitting prior art or annotating prior art submissions on the patent application pages.

In order to foster community and a strong bond between participants on the Website, we encourage you to provide information about yourself such as educational, professional and other background. You may edit all information that you enter on the Website at any time.

All information posted by you, with the exception of your email address, username and password, may be made publicly available. You should not expect any privacy or confidentiality with regard to your Personal Profile (other than your email address, username and password).

1) Information Entered By You on Your Personal Profile:

All information entered on your Personal Profile with the exception of email address, username and password will be made public. Access to your email address, username and password information is limited to those who require the information to provide and manage the Website. We comply with applicable laws and industry standards when transferring, receiving and storing this information.

You may decline to provide your legal name when completing a profile and may, instead, use a pseudonym. However, we encourage you to identify yourself as a means to create a strong reputation for yourself as part of the Peer To Patent community.

You may use an email address that identifies you and/or your professional affiliation or you may use an anonymous webmail address. If you have any question about whether or not you should participate in reviewing patent applications on the job you should consult with your employer.

2) Information We Post About Your Activity on the Website:

All your Activity on the Website (“Activity” may include, but is not limited to, the (1) number of postings to the discussion boards, (2) number and names of patent application communities which you have joined, (3) number and details of prior art submitted and (4) number and details of annotations to prior art) may be displayed on your Personal Profile.

This Activity information may be automatically collected and published on your Personal Profile.

We may track and collect IP Addresses in order to ensure the security and integrity of the system. Access to IP Address information is limited to those who require the information to provide and manage the Website. We comply with applicable laws and industry standards when transferring, receiving and storing this information. We do not collect and will not display information about your browsing habits.

3) Information posted by you on the discussion pages, when submitting prior art, or annotating prior art submissions on the patent application page:

Information that you affirmatively post, such as postings on discussion pages or submissions of prior art, may be available for public viewing and archived.

4) Other Uses or Disclosure of Information About You:

In the following limited circumstances, we may access or disclose information about you, your account and/or the content of your communications, in order to: (1) comply with the law or legal process served on us; (2) enforce and investigate potential violations of the Terms of Use, including use of the Website to participate in, or facilitate, activities that violate the law; or (3) protect the rights, property, or safety of others.

In order to provide you the services of the Website, we may collect certain information about service performance, your machine and your service use. We may automatically upload this information from your machine. This data will not personally identify you.
